Launch of the 2016 GCWCC

"As volunteers and supporters on this campaign, this is one of your key tasks: not just to organize activities and canvass support, but to say thank you to those who give.And that’s also what I want to say to all of you today: thank you for your hard work, your generosity and your dedication," said His Excellency.

His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, hosted the launch of the 2016 Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC) on the grounds of Rideau Hall on September 7, 2016. Before the event, he spent some time speaking with pipers from the Sons of Scotland Pipe Band of Ottawa.

Mr. William F. Pentney, Q.C., National Co-Chair of the 2016 GCWCC, Deputy Minister of Justice and Deputy Attorney General of Canada, addressed the public servants who were in attendance.

Ms. Marie Lemay, National Co-Chair of the 2016 GCWCC and Deputy Minister for Public Services and Procurement, also said a few words.

Ms. Tasha Taylor, National Youth Co-Chair of the 2016 GCWCC and Assistant Chief of Staff to the Deputy Minister of Finance Canada, invited everyone to participate.

This year's goal for the National Capital Region is 19 millions dollars. The Charitable Campaign is managed by the United Way Ottawa and Centraide Outaouais on behalf of the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat. In the National Capital Region, federal employees have contributed to annual fundraising campaigns since 1945.
