His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, hosted the launch of the 2016 Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC) on the grounds of Rideau Hall on September 7, 2016. Before the event, he spent some time speaking with pipers from the Sons of Scotland Pipe Band of Ottawa.

This year's goal for the National Capital Region is 19 millions dollars. The Charitable Campaign is managed by the United Way Ottawa and Centraide Outaouais on behalf of the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat. In the National Capital Region, federal employees have contributed to annual fundraising campaigns since 1945.
