Because Mothers Matter Award

"Canadians today overwhelmingly believe that education is the key to sustained economic well-being. HIPPY is an evidence-based organization that understands the fundamental importance of equality of education and can be critical in realizing this national goal."

Dr. Julie Payette, astronaut, received the Because Mothers Matter Awards given to a prominent Canadian mother who hase achieved noteworthy success while giving back to her community.

Each year, an award is also given to a HIPPY mothers who embody the courage and determination of HIPPY families and serve as models for the unique role mothers play in leading social change. Ms. Erika Infante Pizarro was accompanied by her daughter when she accepted her award.

Ms. Jenny Duquette also received the award as a HIPPY mother. The evidence-based program works with families in the home to support parents, primarily mothers, in their critical role as their child’s first and most important teacher. HIPPY strengthens families and communities by empowering mothers to actively prepare their children for success in school.

Her Excellency Sharon Johnston hosted the second Because Mothers Matter Award for Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) Canada, during a ceremony at Rideau Hall.
