Visit to St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador - Day 1
Upon his arrival in St. John’s, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, joined by His Honour the Honourable Frank. F. Fagan, Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador, presented the Governor General's Caring Canadian Award to 11 volunteers from the province. His Excellency delivered brief remarks on this occasion.

As national chair of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in Canada, he presented the Gold Award to 98 young Canadians from Newfoundland and Labrador in recognition of their dedication and personal accomplishments within their communities.

Gold-level participants also complete a residential project.
