Visit to Northern British Columbia - Day 1

The Governor General presented the gold medals to the Ontario team.

The Governor General and the Honourable Judith Guichon, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, were present for the men's hockey gold medal game.

The players gave a great performance during the final game.

His Excellency had the opportunity to meet with some of the 4,500 volunteers that have helped to make the 2015 Winter Games in Prince George a success.

During the closing ceremony, the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia handed over the Canada Winter Games flag to the mayor of Winnipeg, Mr. Brian Bowman (far right).

"The Canada Winter Games have been such a wonderful coming together of all that is good about our country", said His Excellency. "Diversity, fair play, excellence—all were on display in Prince George over the past 18 days. I am proud to participate in these closing ceremonies. Congratulations everyone on an outstanding winter games!"

Before the Governor General delivered his remarks, the Winter Games torch was ignited and the choir sang the National Anthem.

His Excellency took part in the closing ceremony of the Canada Winter Games in Prince George, British Columbia.

Ontario earned the final gold medal of the 2015 Canada Winter Games when they defeated Alberta 3-1 in men’s hockey.

Some 2,400 athletes from all provinces and territories competed during 18 days.
