Fondation maman Dion

On this occasion, the Governor General also presented the Meritorious Service Medal (Civil Division) to Mrs. Thérèse Tanguay Dion who is dedicated to ensuring the well-being of countless students in Quebec through the organization that she established in 2006. At the beginning of each school year, the Fondation maman Dion helps thousands of young people from underprivileged backgrounds by providing them with the school supplies, clothing and glasses they need to start the year with confidence and pride. The generosity, humility and dedication of this caring woman of action have played a significant role in boosting the self-esteem and desire to succeed in these children at a time in their lives when they need it the most.

Their Excellencies were in Terrebonne, Quebec, to present the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award to 21 volunteers of the Fondation maman Dion during a ceremony that took place at the Golf Le Mirage. Ms. Sonia Benezra hosted the evening.

Mrs. Tanguay Dion offered remarks following the presentation.

A member of Fondation maman Dion’s Board of Directors and Communications Committee, Sylvie Roy is known for her calm and collected manner and for her support of other volunteers, helping them to stay the course during more difficult times.

Sylvain Ferron makes an invaluable contribution to the Fondation maman Dion, ensuring that all of the deliveries bound for families reach their destinations, right across Quebec. His dedication to the organization is exceptional.

A caring woman, Denise Dion is always available to support the Fondation maman Dion in its mission and she has distinguished herself by the quality of advice she offers. Her presence is vital and her work for the Foundation, invaluable.

Lorraine Boisvert has been volunteering for the Fondation maman Dion since 2010. She has been raising the organization’s profile with her boundless empathy, dedication and diligence.

"...I’m proud to present the Caring Canadian Award to many unsung heroes in this community," said the Governor General. "Behind all the good that has been done are the volunteers and supporters who work tirelessly to make it happen. I’m pleased to have this chance to shine a light on your efforts, to add your stories to those of the other generous Canadians I’ve met. Of course, in speaking about this organization’s success, we cannot forget Maman Dion herself. Thérèse Tanguay Dion is dedicated to the children of this province. Without her vision and efforts, none of this would have happened."
