Dedication of Yukon’s Government House

The Commissioner, the Governor General and the Premier took part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

This annual gathering provides an opportunity for members to discuss matters of mutual interest and how they can better serve Canadians from coast to coast to coast.

Her Honour the Honourable Jocelyne Roy Vienneau, Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick, was also presented with her new coat of arms.

On this occasion, the Governor General presented His Honour the Honourable Frank F. Fagan, Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador, with his new coat of arms.

The Governor General participated in the dedication of the historic Taylor House as Yukon’s Government House, home of the Office of the Commissioner in Whitehorse.

The Commissioner of Yukon was happy to welcome guests and the public on this occasion. The Honourable Darrell Pasloski, Premier of Yukon, was also in attendance and delivered remarks.

"Taylor House is a Whitehorse landmark and an important building for all Yukoners, and it’s a great choice for your new government house," said the Governor General. "This building truly is one of a kind. In fact, though architecturally very different, Taylor House reminds me a bit of Rideau Hall and the Citadelle of Québec, the official residences where Sharon and I live and work. Just as those buildings say “Canada” to me, this building says “Yukon”."

Constructed in 1937, Taylor House is recognized for its architecture and its association with the Taylor family who contributed to the early growth and economic development of Yukon through the Taylor and Drury Company.

The Honourable Doug Phillips, Commissioner of Yukon, greeted His Excellency upon his arrival.

While in Whitehorse, Their Excellencies are also attending the Annual Conference of the Governor General, Lieutenant Governors and Territorial Commissioners, from July 6 to 8, 2015.
