Visit to Nova Scotia - Day 2

His Excellency received an Honorary Doctorate of Civil Law from the university for his services to education and universities, and to Canada.

The event was hosted by United Way Halifax.

The Governor General stopped at the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site to visit the Army Museum.

The University of King’s College awarded honorary degrees to three other highly distinguished recipients: the Honourable Michael A Meighen, Dr. Carol Ann Charlebois, and Dr. John Hamm. Candidates were selected for their interest in education, their concern for human dignity, their dedication to public service, and their belief that education makes the world a better place.

The event took place in the Cathedral Church of All Saints, in Halifax.

The Governor General participated in the University of King’s College’s 225th Encaenia Ceremony.

"I am delighted that King’s College will be launching the Malala Yousafzai Canada Scholarship. To give young women in developing nations an opportunity they would not normally receive, that is the essence of Malala’s message—and Canada’s message as well."

His Excellency participated in a round-table discussion on youth engagement. He joined in conversations with young people aged 15 to 30 who are actively involved in their communities to hear the views.

Over the past year, the Governor General has hosted round-table discussions on youth engagement all across the country.

Quentrel Provo, founder of Stop Youth Violence, an organization focused on positive action for youth, was one of the speakers.

Located on the second floor of the Cavalier Building, the Army Museum has an extensive collection of Nova Scotian militaria, including uniforms, decorations, edged weapons and firearms.
