State Visit to Chile - Day 1

During their visit, Their Excellencies learned more about the Government of Canada’s involvement in welcoming thousands of Chileans to our nation.

The Museum recounts the country’s struggle for democracy and human dignity under the dictatorship of former Chilean President Augusto Pinochet, between 1973-1990.

During the first day of their visit to Chile, Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston visited the Museum of Memory and Human Rights, located in Santiago.

The Museum was inaugurated by Her Excellency Michelle Bachelet, President of the Republic of Chile, in January 2010.

The Museum serves as a place for reflection and debate on human rights, respect and tolerance.

Canadian delegate Paul Davidson, President of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada, takes a few minutes to see some of the artefacts up-close.

Their Excellencies are seen here, in front of the Museum of Memory and Human Rights, with Mr. Ricardo Brodsky, Executive Director of the Museum (left), and Mr. Rodrigo Molina, President of the Chile-Quebec Friendship House (right).

Their Excellencies are joined by members of the official and accompanying delegations on the occasion of the State visit to the Republic of Chile, from November 29 to December 3. Parliamentarians and Canadian leaders from academic, innovation and business sectors enhanced their relations with their Chilean counterparts.
