State Visit to Canada by the President of the Federal Republic of Germany

President Gauck then conducted an inspection of the guard of honour.

A 21-gun salute was fired.

That evening, Their Excellencies hosted a State dinner at Rideau Hall, in honour of the President and Ms. Schadt’s visit to Canada.

Canadians and Germans in attendance explored future collaborations between our two countries.

Members of the German community were in attendance to welcome the President.

The President also offered remarks.

"Canadians and Germans share common values and work towards many of the same goals, including democracy, human rights and justice," said His Excellency. "We desire prosperity and security for the many, not just the few. We aspire to build smart and caring societies in which government, business, civil society and academia all work together."

The Governor General was introduced to the official German delegation.

An official welcoming ceremony, with military honours, was held on the grounds.

Their Excellencies welcomed His Excellency Joachim Gauck, President of the Federal Republic of Germany, and his partner, Ms. Daniela Schadt, to Rideau Hall, on September 24, 2014, on the occasion of their State visit to Canada.

Following the official welcoming ceremony, a meeting took place inside Rideau Hall.

During the dinner, His Excellency raised a glass to the ties that bind Canada and Germany in friendship.
