Presentation of Letters of Credence

Letters of credence are the official documents by which new heads of diplomatic missions are presented by their head of State as their official representative. Currently, there are more than 170 heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Canada.

During a ceremony at Rideau Hall, the Governor General welcomed foreign heads of mission to this country. He first received the letters of credence of His Excellency Bálint Ódor, Ambassador of Hungary.

"Each of you has been chosen to represent the people of your respective nations, and to work with Canadians in search of common ground," said the Governor General. "It is an important public service. You know that positive international relations are built on trust and respect, and that these sentiments are earned and renewed, or eroded, on a daily basis."

The Governor General then received the letters of credence of His Excellency George L. Marcantonatos, Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic.

The Governor General also received the letters of credence of His Excellency Teuku Faizasyah, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia.

The Governor General also received the letters of credence of His Excellency Shaikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The Governor General also received the letters of credence of His Excellency Sidi Mohamed Ould Boubacar, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
