Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards Gala

The NAC gala features superb performances, evocative short films about the Award laureates (created by the National Film Board of Canada), and personal tributes by guest stars.

On the evening following the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards ceremony, Their Excellencies walked on the red carpet before attending the gala at the National Arts Centre.

Actress Sheila McCarthy paid tribute to actor and singer Brent Carver, laureate of a GGPAA for Lifetime Artistic Achievement.

The rock band Blue Rodeo received the GGPAA for Lifetime Artistic Achievement.

Singer Kathleen Edwards paid tribute to the rock band Blue Rodeo.

Ms. Louise Lecavalier, dancer and choreographer, was also honoured.

Ms. Janine Sutto, actress and teacher, was among the celebrated artists.

Canadian film, television and stage actor Colm Feore hosted the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards (GGPAA).

"On behalf of all Canadians, I thank you for delighting and entertaining us, for stirring our emotions and stimulating our intellects, for supporting the arts, and for your dedication to excellence."

Mr. Tom Jackson, actor, singer-songwriter, producer and humanitarian, offered a performance on stage. He received a GGPAA for Lifetime Artistic Achievement.

Mr. Albert Schultz is the 2014 National Arts Centre Award Laureate.

Actors paid tribute to Mr. Albert Schultz, actor, director and artistic director.

The audience warmly applauded Ms. Jean Giguère, laureate of the Ramon John Hnatyshyn Award for Voluntarism in the Performing Arts.

Dancer Guillaume Coté paid tribute to dancer, teacher and artistic director Anik Bissonnette.

Every year, the National Arts Centre gala honours the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards recipients.

Blue Rodeo ended the gala with a rocking performance.
