We Day in Toronto

We Day is a stadium-sized educational event and movement of young people leading local and global change. We Day is tied to the year-long We Act program, which offers free educational resources, student-led campaigns and support materials to help turn the event’s inspiration into sustained activation. We Day is an initiative of Free The Children, an international charity and educational partner that educates, engages and empowers youth to become agents of change.

While at We Day, Their Excellencies had the opportunity to meet with Her Excellency Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of the Republic of Liberia.

They also met with meet Sydney Brouillard-Coyle, a youth speaker.

Mr. Spencer West, a double amputee who climbed Mount Kilimanjaro on his hands and in his wheelchair in June 2012, spoke before an audience of 20 000 student leaders from hundreds of elementary and high schools across the country.

The Governor General discussed the importance of giving and volunteering in the community during an on-stage interview with Craig Kielburger, co-founder of Free the Children. Mr. Kielburger was one of the Canadian delegates who accompanied the Governor General during his State visits to Botswana and South Africa in May 2013, to reinforce Canada’s continued engagement in Africa.

During the show, Their Excellencies had the opportunity to meet with Marc (left) and Craig (right) Kielburger, Co-Founders of Free the Children.

His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, was a guest speaker at We Day, that took place at the Air Canada Centre, in Toronto, on September 20, 2013.
