Visit to the Okanagan Region - Day 1

His Excellency delivered a keynote address at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce’s Annual General Meeting. Under the theme of ‘A Canada that Works and Plays’, this conference focused on the Canadian business community’s need for skilled workers and more effective tourism strategies.

"The Canadian Chamber of Commerce is the network of networks, bringing together chambers and boards of trade from across Canada," said His Excellency. "You represent tens of thousands of businesses of all sizes—businesses that are essential to so many Canadian communities and livelihoods."

The Annual General Meeting of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce offers its members the opportunity to discuss issues of importance to the Canadian business community.

Following the Canadian Chamber of Commerce 2013 Annual General Meeting, the Governor General met with His Worship Walter Gray, the Mayor of the City of Kelowna.

His Excellency also attended Sunday Service at the Cathedral Church of St. Michael and All Angels, where he gave the Second Reading (Revelation 12:7-12).

Celebrating its centenary this year, the Cathedral Church of St. Michael and All Angels is the mother church of the Diocese of Kootenay.

As patron of Community Foundations of Canada, His Excellency delivered a keynote address at the launch of the South Okanagan/Similkameen Smart and Caring Communities Initiative. The focus of this initiative will be to establish community funds and local committees throughout the region.
