Youth of Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug (KI) First Nation living in the remote boreal forest of northwestern Ontario opened their homes to Canadians to share their culture and showcase the spirit of their community. Her Excellency Sharon Johnston and Her Honour Mrs. Ruth Ann Onley accepted this invitation and attended the KI Event on Friday, June 21, 2013, on the occasion of National Aboriginal Day.

During an official ceremony, KI Chief Donny Morris and other community leaders offered welcoming remarks to Her Excellency, Her Honour and other participants in this journey. Her Excellency took this opportunity to thank the community for their warm welcome and this memorable experience. She spoke in oji-cree thanks to an interpreter.
