Visit to the Causeway Work Centre

For the past 35 years, the Causeway Work Centre has assisted people facing significant barriers to employment, including mental illness, other disabilities and those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

The Causeway Work Centre is a non-profit organization that transforms lives and fuels community economic development through a wide variety of programs, partnerships and social businesses such as Right Bike - a bicycle sharing service. During her visit, Mr. Tais McNeill presented Her Excellency with an honorary membership to the service.

Her Excellency also visited Causeway's Employment Centre.

While there, Her Excellency spoke with Employment Centre staff about the ways clients are benefiting from their services.

“It is an honour to be part of this special event and to be able to acknowledge the efforts of the many individuals who generously contributed time and resources to the completion of the new showers facility,” said Her Excellency. “It is also be an opportunity to recognize the important work that the Centre does to support individuals who are disadvantaged or living with mental health issues in our community. Organizations such as Causeway make a great difference in the lives of many by offering employment programs and opportunities, which in turn, reduce the stigma and encourage a greater social inclusion of those living with mental illness.”

Her Excellency unveilled a plaque to officially open the Wellness Showers, a new facility within Causeway’s Fitness Centre. Following the unveiling, Her Excellency also attended the Centre’s Annual Volunteer Appreciation event, where Causeway Work Centre clients and Causeway Foundation board members and community supporters will be recognized.
