Upon their arrival in Kumasi, Their Excellencies were greeted by a representative of the Kingdom of Ashanti and the Honourable Eric Opoku, Ashanti Regional Minister.

Following the durbar, Their Excellencies met with the King inside the Manhyia Palace.

A procession of chiefs and Queenmothers and the King of Ashanti appeared at the durbar in traditional ceremonial clothing accentuated with jewellery and precious beads.

Canada’s support for the Ghana Grains Development Project contributed to several new and improved varieties of maize now widely used by farmers, including varieties which have a higher nutritional value than traditional maize. As an indication of the close relationship between Canada and Ghana, researchers nicknamed one of the new Quality Protein Maize varieties “CIDA-Ba” (CIDA Baby).
