Remembrance Day Ceremony 2013

Their Excellencies laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknow Soldier, on behalf of the people of Canada.

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was created to honour the more than 116,000 Canadians who sacrificed their lives in the cause of peace and freedom. Furthermore, the Unknown Soldier represents all Canadians, whether they be navy, army, air force or merchant marine, who died or may die for their country in all conflicts - past, present, and future.

On November 11, 2013, thousands of people gathered in the nation's capital to pay tribute to fallen Canadian soldiers.

The ceremony ended with a March Past in front of His Excellency and the National Silver Cross Mother.

The Governor General had the opportunity to speak with some of the veterans attending the ceremony.

Hundreds of veterans gathered around the National War Memorial for this ceremony.

Each year, in addition to dignitaries, parliamentarians and military officials, various groups, organisations ans individuals also lay wreath to never forget.

The National War Memorial, where the National Remembrance Day Ceremony takes place every year, was inaugurated in Ottawa in 1939.

Their Excellencies observed one minute of silence during the National Remembrance Day Ceremony at the National War Memorial in Ottawa.

This year's National Silver Cross Mother, Mrs. Niki Psiharis, laid a wreath on behalf of the mothers of Canada.

The ceremony included a fly past of two CF-18 fighter jets.

Upon his arrival at the National War Memorial, in Ottawa, His Excellency received a vice-regal salute

For his part, General Tom Lawson, Chief of the Defence Staff, had the opportunity to speak with a 100-year old veteran.
