Order of Merit of the Police Forces at the Citadelle of Québec

Commissioner Christopher D. Lewis, of the Ontario Provincial Police in Orillia, was invested as Commander of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces.

Superintendent Donald J.J. Spicer, of the Halifax Regional Police Service, was invested as Officer of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces.

Deputy Commissioner Douglas Lang, of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Ottawa, was invested as Member of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces.

"This honour recognizes the fact that your job is about much more than strict policing and law enforcement," stated His Excellency. "Rather, you are community builders in the broadest sense, helping to create a sense of trust, belonging, well-being and, of course, security, that is so essential to strong communities and nations."

The Order of Merit of the Police Forces was created in 2000, to recognize conspicuous merit and exceptional service by members and employees of Canadian police forces whose contributions extend beyond protection of the community. Three levels of membership with post-nominal letters reflect long-term, outstanding service: Commander (C.O.M.), Officer (O.O.M.) and Member (M.O.M.).

During his speech, Commissioner Bob Paulson highlighted the importance of public safety and the police profession.
