"We are so fortunate to call Canada our home, but there remains a great deal of work to be done to ensure all Canadians have the chance to lead healthy, fulfilling lives," said His Excellency. "Helping out takes time and energy, and also the courage to get involved in campaigns such as this one."

Every day, thousands of Canadians count on a variety of charitable and essential services, such as food banks, emergency shelters, health support groups, addictions counselling and other charitable supports for help. Through contributions to Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign partners, including the United Ways, HealthPartners, and more than 80,000 registered Canadian charities, federal employees and retirees are ensuring these supports are available to Canadians.

“In many ways, taking part in the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign is a natural extension of my work as a federal employee,” said Mr. Daniel Jean, Deputy Minister of Canadian Heritage and the National Chair of the 2013 Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign. “I believe that many federal employees and retirees would agree that part of the reason why we were drawn to our careers in public service is because we want to make a difference in society and because we care. The Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign, in essence, is another way we demonstrate our leadership and play a role in helping to make this country better for everyone.”
