Citizenship Ceremony

During the ceremony, the Governor General conferried citizenship certificates to 39 new Canadians from 25 countries.

Prior to the citizenship ceremony, His Excellency hosted a community-led round-table discussion on citizenship with new Canadians at Rideau Hall.

Organized in partnership with Citizenship and Immigration Canada and the Institute for Canadian Citizenship, the round-table discussion encouraged new Canadians to share their stories and their collective reflection on citizenship.

"Let me speak directly to each of you here as new citizens and to your loved ones, stated His Excellency. "This is a special moment for you and also for Canada. Taking the oath of citizenship is a solemn and meaningful act, one which transforms your lives and our country for the better."

His Excellency administered the Oath of Citizenship.

"I swear That I will be faithful And bear true allegiance To Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors, And that I will faithfully observe The laws of Canada And fulfill my duties As a Canadian citizen."

The ceremony ended with the cake cutting.

The Institute for Canadian Citizenship is a national, non-profit organization that engages Canadians in citizenship through innovative programs, campaigns and partnerships designed to ensure new citizens are welcomed and included as equals; create meaningful connections among all Canadian citizens; foster a culture of active, engaged citizens; and celebrate what it means to be Canadian.

The Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, 26th governor general of Canada and Institute for Canadian Citizenship Founder and Co-Chair, offered words of congratulations to the new Canadians.
