Visit of the President of Israel - Day 2

His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, joined by His Excellency Shimon Peres, President of the State of Israel, hosted a discussion on education and innovation for the purpose of promoting greater collaboration and synergy between Canada and Israel. Participants included experts from universities and organizations interested in furthering the convergence of education and innovation.

The Honourable John Manley, President and CEO of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives(sitting to the right of His Excellency), attended the discussion.

The President of the State of Israel delivered opening remarks to Canadian participants which included representatives of the Association of University and Colleges of Canada, university presidents, granting agencies, innovation councils as well as other organizations involved in promoting the convergence of education and innovation.

The tree is an Eastern White Pine (Pinus strobes), which is called the ‘Tree of Peace’ by the Iroquois.

The rain did not stop the President from dedicating a tree on the grounds of Rideau Hall to commemorate his State visit to Canada.

The Governor General and the President witnessed the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Royal Society of Canada and the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities.

The signatories were Ms. Yolande Grisé, President of the Royal Society of Ottawa (next to the Governor General), and Professor Ruth Arnon, President of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities (next to President Peres).
