Public Service Diamond Jubilee Medal Presentation

On the occasion of National Public Service Week, Diamond Jubilee Medals were presented to public servants whose contributions were recognized by their department. Mr. Ray Hatfield, Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada, is pictured with the Governor General (right) and Mr. Wayne Wouters, Clerk of the Privy Council (left).

Ms. Sylvie Pinard Labrie, Canadian Heritage, was also recognized on this occasion.

The Diamond Jubilee Medal was also presented to Ms. Susan Cartwright, Commissioner of the Public Service Commission of Canada.

"Today, we honour some of the very best public servants," said His Excellency. "You are here because your department recognized in you the effort, creativity and dedication to service that are indicative of the public service of today. And you are here not only as individuals, but also as representatives of your colleagues, whose own hard work cannot be overlooked."

The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal was created to mark the 2012 celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada. This commemorative medal is a tangible way for Canada to honour Her Majesty for her service to this country. At the same time, it serves to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians. During the year of celebrations, 60 000 deserving Canadians from across the country and various walks of life will be recognized.
