Olympic Games - Day 4

"If we delve a little deeper into the Olympic Games, we discover that it is more than a just showcase for sports," said His Excellency. "It is an unparalleled opportunity for tens of thousands of people—athletes, coaches, fans, families, journalists, broadcasters, businesspeople and government officials—from over 150 countries to share experiences, exchange ideas and develop friendships, alliances and partnerships that may reach far beyond these three weeks in this one city. In this simple way, London 2012 will enable us to practice something I call the diplomacy of knowledge. It is a straightforward concept that has significant consequences. The diplomacy of knowledge is our ability and willingness to work together and share the information we uncover and refine—across disciplines and across borders—to create a smarter, more caring world for us all."

During a networking meeting hosted by the High Commissioner for Canada, His Excellency delivered a speech to visiting senior representatives of countries attending the Olympic Games on the importance of working together across disciplines and borders. He also highlighted the ability of the Canadian Public-Private Partnerships model to enhance innovation and to deliver higher quality infrastructure.

Later in the day, Their Excellencies cheered on our Canadian athletes competing in various events. Prior to one of the men's beach volleyball game, they met with a volunteer of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The Canadian duo won during this preliminary-round match.

They were joined by many other Canadians who proudly showed their colours.

Their Excellencies were in the stands to cheer on Canada's men's beach volleyball team, during their match against Great Britain.
