Throughout the visit to Brazil, His Excellency is joined by the Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs); the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State (Science and Technology) (Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario); parliamentarians; and Canadian delegates who are enhancing people-to-people ties with their Brazilian counterparts.

Her Excellency met with artists from Quizomba Group at Rio Scenarium. Quizomba is one of Rio's most popular carnival street bands. It is renowned for playing a great mixture of rhythms, ranging from samba to Brazilian pop music. Quizomba was formed by a group of 16 musicians who spread their music throughout Brazil.

His speech was on the theme of “Canada in the 21st Century: A Trusted Partner for Brazil”: "I hope that Canada and Brazil will continue to grow our ties, as trusted partners. The next decade will surely bring more challenges and greater opportunities. Let us meet them head on, together."

The statue of Christ the Redeemer with open arms is the image of Christian faith and the iconic symbol of the city of Rio de Janeiro and the entire country. In 2007, it was voted one of New Seven Wonders of the World.
