Diamond Jubilee Medal Presentation

On October 31, 2012, the Governor General presented the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal to 34 recipients at the exhibit From Far and Wide – Honouring Great Canadians, in Ottawa. "At her coronation, Her Majesty The Queen pledged herself to our service and said that she “shall strive to be worthy of your trust.”," said His Excellency. "From the very beginning, The Queen understood that service to others is an important aspect of our humanity; that we can do so much together to work for the good of all. Time and again, she has proven worthy of the trust we place in her as queen. And in you, we place our gratitude, as you are creating better opportunities and a brighter future for this nation."

Rasha Al-Katta (Ottawa, Ontario) is recognized for her community service and her active volunteer work with United Way Ottawa.

The Honourable Monique Bégin, P.C., O.C. (Ottawa, Ontario) is recognized for her active role in the fight for the rights of the less fortunate, and for the rights of women, senior citizens, Aboriginal people and children.

Judy Chiu (Burnaby, British Columbia) is recognized for her dedication as a mentor to younger volunteers and as a member of the St. John Ambulance Cadet Division.

Denzil Doyle, C.M. (Ottawa, Ontario) is recognized for his role in the promotion, development and growth of Canada’s high technology industry.

Don Newman, C.M. (Ottawa, Ontario), a highly respected journalist, is recognized for encouraging integrity in reporting and demystifying complex political issues.

Pyer-Luc Parent (Saint-Georges de Beauce, Quebec) is recognized for his 5 000 volunteer hours of community work with St. John Ambulance, which he joined when he was just 12 years old.
