Canadian Association for Graduate Studies 50th Anniversary
His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, attended the Canadian Association for Graduate Studies' 50th anniversary dinner in Ottawa on November 6, 2012. Upon his arrival, he was greeted by Mr. John Doering, current President, and Mrs. Noreen Golfman, incoming President.

His Excellency delivered a speech: "Having spent much of my career working as a university professor, dean and administrator, I am keenly aware of the role this association plays in strengthening graduate studies in Canada. It is a service for which I am grateful. As governor general, I have identified learning and innovation as pillars of a smarter, more caring Canada, and excellence in graduate studies is essential to our success."

The Canadian Association for Graduate Studies (CAGS) was founded in 1962 to promote graduate education and university research through meetings, publications and advocacy. The Association brings together 58 Canadian universities with graduate programs and the three federal research-granting agencies, as well as other institutions and organizations having an interest in graduate studies.
