2012 National Poppy Campaign
Following the ceremony, His Excellency gave poppies to guests, including Mr. Jon Mosley, a Second World War veteran.

On October 24, 2012, the 2012 National Poppy Campaign was launched at Rideau Hall. "As commander-in-chief of Canada, I am honoured to receive the first poppy in this year’s National Poppy Campaign," said His Excellency. "Here at Rideau Hall, we understand the importance of symbolism in the life of our nation, and the poppy is our most potent symbol of remembrance. This small, scarlet flower speaks volumes about the sacrifices of Canadian soldiers and veterans, and it starkly reminds us of the tragedy of war."
