State Visit to the Republic of Singapore - Day 2

The Governor General was officially welcomed to Singapore by His Excellency Tony Tan Keng Tam, President of the Republic of Singapore, during a ceremony with military honours.

During the official welcoming ceremony, the Governor General permormed an inspection of the guard of honour.

The Governor General met with Mr. Tony Tan Keng Yam, President of the Republic of Singapore.

The Governor General met with the Right Honourable Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore.

The Governor General and the Canadian delegation took part in a roundtable discussion, co-hosted by Singapore's National Research Foundation, which focussed on innovation as a key factor in contributing to economic growth and breaking new ground in Singapore and Canada. This exchance with Singaporean counterparts allowed the Governor General and the Canadian delegates to examine how Singapore's research innovation underpins the global competitiveness of its industries, catalyzes new growth, and is transforming the economy in Asia's innovative hub.

The Governor General delivered a keynote address to students of the National University of Singapore, to Singaporean tertiary students, and to academic, business and innovation leaders based in Singapore.

A panel discussion on the Role of Universities in the Development of Knowledge Clusters, as well as a question period with Canadian delegates and Singaporean counterparts took place following the Governor General's address at the National University of Singapore.

Prior to the roundtable discussion, the Governor General visited Singapore's Harmony Centre.

His Excellency and Canadian delegates met Senior Officials from the Ministry for Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore as well as other community leaders to address key policies and approaches to community engagement.
