Official Visit to Manitoba - Day 2

Their Excellencies visited the David Livingstone Community School in Winnipeg.

With construction slated for completion in 2012, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights promises to be an international landmark, drawing visitors from around the globe.

The Governor General visited the Assiniboine Park Conservancy to learn about the new International Polar Bear Conservation Centre and visited the Nature Playground.

His Excellency was invited to plant an oak tree in the park’s new Nature Playground, in support of a new Forest for the Future program.

The Intermediate Bridges FASD Program is a partnership between Healthy Child Manitoba and the Winnipeg School Division to support students with FASD in grades three to six at David Livingstone Community School. The purpose of the program is to identify, support and disseminate best practices in the education of students with FASD.

Their Excellencies met with students of the Intermediate Bridges FASD Program in the school library to discuss their experiences, successes and challenges of living with FASD.

Their Excellencies met with the teachers of the David Livingstone Community School and provincial government officials to learn about Manitoba’s Healthy Child Initiative to assist children with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).

Located at the Forks of the Red and Assiniboine rivers, the museum sits on land that has been a meeting place for thousands of years and is the place where First Nations tribes first came to resolve conflict and live together in peace.

During the second day of their official visit to Manitoba, Their Excellencies visited the Canadian Museum of Human Rights, currently under construction.
