50th Anniversary of the National Theatre School of Canada

Established in Montréal in 1960, the National Theatre School of Canada offers professional training in English and French, in a setting that unites all theatre arts under one roof: acting, playwriting, directing, set and costume design, and production. Students benefit not only from individualized training, but also from daily contact with professionals active in shaping theatre across the country and abroad.

As patron of the National Theatre School of Canada, His Excellency delivered a speech highlighting the importance of culture and learning in honour of the School's 50th anniversary.

Guy Nadon, actor, teacher and alumni of the National Theatre School of Canada (French Acting Program, 1974), spoke about the early days of the School and the vision of its founders over 50 years ago. In 2010, Mr. Nadon was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada.

Third-year students from the French Acting Program of the National Theatre School of Canada performed an excerpt from Wajdi Mouawad's play Littoral.

Wajdi Mouawad, playwright, actor, and director, is a graduate of the Acting Program of the National Theatre School of Canada (1991). Mr. Mouawad was awarded the Governor General's Literary Award for drama in 2000.

Ishan Davé, third-year English student with the National Theatre School of Canada, performed a monologue.

Jackie Rowland, third-year English student with the National Theatre School of Canada, also performed a monologue.
