Unveiling of Roméo LeBlanc Stamp

Ms. Susan Margles, Vice-President of Government Relations and Policy Framework at Canada Post, helped the Governor General to unveil the stamp created by Canada Post.

The Governor General delivered remarks to the guests who attended the event. "My hope is that this stamp will help preserve the memory of Roméo LeBlanc, a great Canadian, proud Acadian, and staunch defender of the Francophonie, at home and abroad, for many generations to come."

Mr. LeBlanc even made the audience and Their Excellencies laugh by telling fond memories of his father and the time spent by his family at Rideau Hall.

Mr. Dominic LeBlanc, son of the late Roméo LeBlanc, also delivered a warm address.

A stamp bearing the likeness of the late Right Honourable Roméo LeBlanc, governor general of Canada from 1995 to 1999, was unveiled during a ceremony hosted by Their Excellencies at Rideau Hall.

Canadian artist Christan Nicholson painted the official portrait of Mr. LeBlanc that was the inspiration for the stamp. The original portrait hangs in Rideau Hall's entrance hall.
