REGIONAL VISIT TO SASKATCHEWAN - Day 1

The Governor General met with the Honourable Brad Wall, Premier of Saskatchewan, and was presented with a Canadian Football League Roughriders jersey. It bears her last name and the number 27, to mark her tenure as the 27th Governor General of Canada.

The Governor General arrived at the Regina International Airport and was greeted by Their Honours, the Honourable Dr. Gordon L. Barnhart, Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan and his wife Mrs. Naomi Barnhart.

In honour of her visit to the province, the Governor General planted a tree in the Edwardian Gardens at Government House in the presence of Their Honours, the Honourable Dr. Gordon L. Barnhart, Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan and his wife Mrs. Naomi Barnhart.

Following the tree planting ceremony, the Governor General met with the gathered crowd, who came for the occasion.

"For empowering youth is empowering a community, it is empowering a city, and it is empowering a nation. So please remember this the next time you are challenged. Do not let yourself be intimidated. Stand up for your communities, and convince your friends, your peers, your parents, the local business-owner down the road, and especially elected officials to join you in reinventing the world. This is how to ignite change," said Her Excellency to the youth.

The Governor General’s Youth Dialogues “Can We Talk” series focuses on galvanizing young Canadians in every part of the country to become catalysts of hope, creativity and social transformation.

As part of the “Can We Talk” series, the Governor General hosted a Youth Dialogue on the role young people can play to improve their community, at the Downtown Saskatoon Youth Centre. The Governor General delivered remarks.
