Honorary Degree from the University of Waterloo

The University Chancellor confered the Doctorate of Law honoris causa to the Governor General.

During a convocation ceremony at the University of Waterloo, in Ontario, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, received a Doctorate of Law honoris causa from the University, and was invested as president emeritus. The University Mace Bearer marks the beginning of the ceremony.

Prior to becoming the 28th governor general of Canada on October 1, 2010, His Excellency had been the president and vice-chancellor of the University of Waterloo since June 1999.

The University of Waterloo, located at the heart of Canada’s Technology Triangle, is one of Canada’s leading comprehensive universities. Waterloo is home to 30,000 full- and part-time undergraduate and graduate students who are dedicated to making the future better and brighter.

A citation was read to the audience to honour His Excellency.

The Chancellor of the University of Waterloo Mr. Prem Watsa invested the President Emeritus to His Excellence.

For this occasion, His Excellency delivered the convocation address in front of bachelor, master and doctorate degree recipients from Waterloo’s faculties of Arts and Applied Health Sciences, as well as Renison University College’s School of Social Work.
