Canadian Olympic Team Welcoming Ceremony

Their Excellencies attended the Canadian Olympic Team Welcoming Ceremony where they had the opportunity to meet with Canadian athletes and cheer them on before they compete in the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Their Excellencies attended the official raising of the Canadian flag. Cpl Jeremy Matte from Canadian Forces Base Comox (B.C) had the honour to raise the Olympic flag.

The Governor General will open the Games before thousands of athletes and dignitaries from the four corners of the globe at the opening ceremony, on Friday, February 12:

“I believe that sport, like art, has the power to unite us, and that peace is always possible and can be built by seemingly simple gestures,” said the Governor General, patron of the Olympic Truce. This dialogue will engage Canadians from coast to coast to coast to break down the walls of prejudice and injustice, and to work together on building mutual understanding for a stronger Canada and a better humanity”.

The atmosphere was cheerful: only two days before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games!
