Assises internationales de Montréal

"Of course, education is necessary for any growth-oriented country, but also and especially so for any country trying to rise from the ashes," said the Governor General. "The needs in the coming years will be enormous, and Haiti must be able to count on its youth, who will need to have access to high-quality education to meet the many complex challenges of reconstruction."

The Governor General delivered the opening address of the first Assises internationales for the reconstruction of the Haitian university system. The event that was organized by the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) took place at the Université de Montréal. It aimed to adopt an action plan that includes financing strategies to reconstruct the university system in Haiti, severely hit by an earthquake on January 12, 2010.
