Art Matters Forum - Greater Sudbury

Her Excellency hosted an Art Matters public forum exploring the theme, “Art’s ability to breathe new life to our communities”.

"It gives my husband, Jean-Daniel Lafond, and I great pleasure to dedicate this, the 50th Art Matters forum, to you, our dear Franco-Ontarian friends, in recognition of your tremendous cultural vitality. There is a lively Francophone presence here, one that is embodied in each of you, as well as in the many institutions you founded that have allowed the language and culture you are so proud of to flourish in people’s hearts."

The following panellists, from Northern Ontario’s cultural scene, took part in the discussion: Alain Doom, Director of the Arts d’expression program at Laurentian University, actor and stage director; Stéphane Gauthier, General and Cultural Director of La Slague du Carrefour francophone, and President of the Salon du livre du Grand Sudbury’s board; Mélissa Rockburn, cultural events organizer and emerging artist; and Oryst Sawchuk, architect, visual artist, musician and urban planner.

The event took place at Théâtre du Nouvel Ontario. The moderator for the discussion was Miriam Cusson, Director of the Salon du livre du Grand Sudbury.
