2010 Olympic Truce Youth Dialogue

Over 500 youths took part in the event. The intercultural dialogue brought together Olympic athletes, young leaders, participants from the Vancouver 2010 Indigenous Youth Gathering, foreign dignitaries, government officials and other special guests.

On the eve of the official opening ceremony of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, Their Excellencies met with young leaders from across the country to mark the Winter Games through a high-energy discussion.

Indigenous Youth sang for the participants.

Building on the momentum generated by the Governor General’s last four years of engagement across Canada and overseas, the GG’s Youth Dialogues 'Can We Talk' series focuses on galvanizing Canadians in every part of the country to become catalysts of hope, creativity and social transformation in their neighbourhoods, villages, reserves, communities and in broader society. Her Excellency shares the ideas and perspectives presented during the dialogues with decision makers.

The intercultural dialogue was presented as part of the Vancouver 2010 Indigenous Youth Gathering and held at the Vancouver Public Library’s Central Branch on February 11, 2010.

Many participants wanted to keep images of the cultural (and physical!) performances: a lot of photos were taken.

Breakdancers brought even more energy to the crowd with their unbelievable moves.

Many young leaders wanted to be heard. This 22nd Governor General’s Youth Dialogue focused on the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Truce and how peace, mutual understanding, inclusion and co-operation can be used in communities to resolve many of the common challenges faced by society today.

The theme of the Youth Dialogue was "Promoting Mutual Understanding". His Serene Highness Albert II Sovereign Prince of Monaco delivered an address.

DJ Erica Dee also entertained the crowd.
