VISIT TO CANADA'S NORTH - Discussion with community leaders in Kuujjuaq, Quebec
Their Excellencies the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, and her husband Jean-Daniel Lafond participated in a discussion with community leaders from Kuujjuaq. The meeting was held at the Makivik Corporation.

The Mayor of Kuujjuaq, Makivik board members and other prominent community leaders attended the meeting to discuss issues, challenges and success stories related to the community.

The discussion took place at the Makivik Corporation, a development corporation mandated to manage the heritage funds of the Inuit of Nunavik, as outlined in the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement. Makivik’s role includes administering and investing the funds, as well as promoting economic growth through the assistance of new businesses launched by the Inuit in Nunavik. It also promotes the preservation of Inuit culture and language, as well as the health, welfare, relief of poverty, and education of the Inuit in their communities.
