Their Excellencies concluded their State visit to the Hellenic Republic by planting a tree to underline the donation of 1500 trees from Canada to the city of Olympia to regenerate the region which was devastated by forest fires in 2007.

Following a meeting with the mayor of Olympia His Worship Georgios Aidonis, the Governor General stated: "It was here that the Olympic torch was lit according to tradition and then handed over to the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games at a ceremony in the stadium in Athens. So it was here that the Olympic flame began its long journey to Canada. It is therefore in the spirit of solidarity that we are giving trees in Olympia, because we have not forgotten the devastating wildfires that ravaged south Peloponnese in 2007."

Their Excellencies along with the mayor of Olympia also unveiled a plaque which tells the story of the donation of 1500 trees from Canada as a symbol of solidarity between Canadians and Greeks.
