Governor General presents the Canadian Journalism Foundation's Lifetime Achievement Award

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, presented the 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award at the Canadian Journalism Foundation’s 12th annual awards gala. The event took place in Toronto, on Tuesday, June 9, 2009. On this occasion, the Governor General delivered a speech.

In front of Canada’s top journalists, media executives, business and public sector leaders, the Governor General presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Joe Schlesinger, a former reporter with CBC Television news. Mr. Schlesinger has reported from every part of the globe for the last four decades. The annual Lifetime Achievement Award was created to recognize individuals who have made an outstanding lifetime contribution to journalism.

Founded in 1990, the Canadian Journalism Foundation (CJF) is a not-for-profit organization that exists to help achieve excellence in Canadian journalism. The CJF believes that better journalism ensures a better-informed population and an improved democratic process. Through leadership seminars, panel discussions and other activities, the Foundation builds bridges and fosters open, informed dialogue and debate between leading public and private organizations and the media.
