Decorations for Bravery Investiture Ceremony

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, presided at the investiture ceremony of the Decorations for Bravery. They were created in 1972 and recognize people who risk their lives and choose to defy their own instinct of survival to try to save a loved one or a perfect stranger whose life is in immediate danger. Every year, countless incidents occur, fraught with a great deal of danger for the potential victims and rescuers.

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, presented the Star of Courage to Sergeant David John Cooper, S.C., C.D. of Winnipeg, Manitoba and to Sergeant Dwayne B. Guay, S.C., C.D. of Comox, British Columbia.

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, presented the Star of Courage awarded to late Constable Christopher George Garrett to his father, Mr. Gordon Garrett and Constable Garrett’s son, Mr. Benjamin Garrett.

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, presented the Medal of Bravery to Mr. Allan Dale Bennett, M.B. of Edson, Alberta, Mr Aaron Buffett, M.B. of Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia, Mr. Harold Galliford, M.B. of Jarvie, Alberta, Mr. Mark Timothy McKay, M.B. of Calgary, Alberta, Mr. Richard K. Randall, M.B. of Red Deer, Alberta, Mr. Joseph Eugene Stanley Rucchin, M.B. of Enoch, Alberta and to Ronald R. Savill's son, M.B. of High Prairie, Alberta, Mr Ronald J. Savill.

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, presented the Medal of Bravery to Mrs Geneviève Bergeron-Collin, M.B. of Verdun, Québec.

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, presented the Medal of Bravery awarded to late Léonard Corbeil M.B. of Québec City, to his wife, Mrs. Lina Ouellet.

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, presented the Medal of Bravery to twelve year-old Marshall Davis M.B. of Edmonton, Alberta.
