Opening Ceremony of the la Francophonie Summit

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, and the Prime Minister of Canada the Right Honourable Stephen Harper welcomed the delegations attending the opening ceremony of the Francophonie Summit in the City of Québec.

The Governor General welcomed with great enthousiasm the President of Haiti, her birth country, His Excellency Robert Garcia Préval.

The Governor General of Canada, along with the Secretary General to the United Nations His Excellence Ban Ki-Moon (left) and the President of the European Commission His Excellency José Manuel Durão Barroso (right) attended the opening ceremony of the Francophonie Summit held in the City of Québec.

The Francophonie Summit took place in the City of Québec from October 17 to 19, 2008.

The Premier of Québec Jean Charest delivered a speech for this grand summit.

The Secretary General of the Francophonie His Excellency Mr. Abdou Diouf delivered a speech.

The Secretary General to the United Nations His Excellency Ban Ki-Moon delivered a speech.

His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, also spoke at this summit.

The Prime Minister of Canada and the Governor General both welcomed the President of the French Republic His Excellency Nicolas Sarkozy.
