National Remembrance Day Ceremony

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, with her daughter, Marie-Éden and the Prime Minister of Canada the Right Honourable Stephen Harper attended the National Remembrance Day Ceremony held at the National War Memorial in Ottawa.

As part of this ceremony, four Canadian Forces F-18 jets flew over the National War Memorial.

The passing of the torch is a new addition to this year's ceremony commemorating the 90th anniversary of the end of the First World War. World War II veteran Mr. George Dunlop (middle) is giving the torch to Korean War veteran Mr. Al Tobio (right). Cadet CPO Brian Rainbow is looking on.

The torch remained on display during the entire ceremony.

On behalf of the people of Canada, Her Excellency laid a wreath in memory of the Canadian soldiers who died at war.

Thousands of people gathered around the National War Memorial to witness the Remembrance Day Ceremony.

The Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada along with the Prime Minister of Canada and the 2008 National Silver Cross Mother, Ms. Avril Dianna Stachnik, observing the military parade on Wellington Street in downtown Ottawa.

Many Canadian war veterans took part in the ceremony.
