Visit to Toronto

The Governor General poses with students from Lawrence Heights Middle School in Toronto on June 14, 2006, after the theatrical performance of An Ode to Madame G.G. Her Excellency was invited by Principal Janice Searles, Terrance A. Saunders, grade 6 and drama teacher, and by the staff and students from the school, to attend the play inspired by her life. The Governor General spoke to the students after the play, which was created and directed by Mr. Saunders.

The Governor General met with the residents of Romero House and delivered short remarks on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the residence on June 14, 2006 in Toronto. Romero House plays a critical role in the resettlement of refugees. The Governor General also stopped to view a mural painted by refugees and visited a roof garden named after her.

The Governor General and His Excellency Mr. Jean-Daniel Lafond attended the Inaugural Concert Gala for the opening of the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts on June 14, 2006 in Toronto, a centre specifically built in Canada to house the Canadian Opera Company and The National Ballet of Canada.
