Ceremony to honour the Battles of the Somme and Beaumont-Hamel
The Governor General and His Excellency Jean-Daniel Lafond took part in a special wreath laying ceremony at the National War Memorial and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Ottawa on July 1, 2006, to mark the 90th anniversary of the Battles of the Somme and Beaumont-Hamel. The commemorative wreath laying ceremony included a traditional service of Remembrance and was followed by a veterans and Canadian Forces military parade.
