Canadian delegates to accompany the Governor General on the State Visit to Finland

OTTAWA, Ontario—Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, will be supported by Canadian leaders when she undertakes a State visit to the Republic of Finland from February 6 to 10, 2023.

The following delegation members will bring a wealth of expertise and experience in the fields of education, the Arctic region, and Indigenous knowledge, and will enhance relations with their Finnish counterparts.

CANADIAN DELEGATION

Alicia Aragutak
Executive member, Makivik Corporation

Alicia Aragutak is known for her active and participatory citizenship in her region and beyond. She has travelled internationally to speak on the vital importance of Indigenous culture and youth involvement.

Mary Cameron
Deputy Minister of Education & Deputy Minister Responsible for Women and Gender Equity Directorate, Government of Yukon

Mary Cameron began her career in Yukon 10 years ago as a director with the Carcross/Tagish First Nation. She then moved on to the Yukon Housing Corporation where she worked as both a director and vice-president, and as president for the last three years. Prior to working in Yukon, she worked in both the public and independent school systems as a teacher, department head, vice-principal and principal.

Dr. Jackie Dawson
Canada Research Chair (tier 1) in the Human and Policy Dimensions of Climate Change, and Scientific Director of the Network of Centres of Excellence at ArcticNet

Dr. Jackie Dawson is the scientific director of ArcticNet, a Network of Centres of Excellence of Canada. She is an applied scientist working on the human and policy dimensions of environmental change in ocean and coastal regions, and is considered an expert in Arctic shipping, Arctic tourism and Arctic oceans governance.

Rob Oliphant
Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs

Rob Oliphant was elected as the member of Parliament for Don Valley West in 2015. He had previously served as member of Parliament for the riding from 2008 to 2011. In this capacity, Mr. Oliphant served as chair of the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration, and chair of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security. He has also been a member of various other parliamentary committees, associations and groups.
