Message from the Governor General
on the Occasion of National Acadian Day

OTTAWA—Today, Acadians far and wide and coast to coast are proudly waving the tricoloured flag with its yellow star. As the tintamarres and festivities fill the air, the cultural vitality of a dynamic community will be on full display. With joyful hearts, Acadians across Canada are gathered together to celebrate their rich heritage and commemorate their history.

And although that history has been fraught with hardships, the Acadian people have time and again shown themselves to be incredibly resilient. United by their remarkable desire to forge ahead while remembering who they are and where they come from, Acadians have maintained their identity over time. With unwavering courage and determination, they continue to enrich our cultural mosaic to this day.

May you all enjoy this wonderful celebration!
