Lyle Farrelly, Alma, Ontario
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Since his youth, Lyle Farrelly has been a loyal supporter and proponent of the Scouting movement. As a troop leader for the 1st Creekbank-Alma Scouts, he instilled in many young people a sense of community while helping them to hone their outdoor skills. After contracting multiple sclerosis, he continued to support the Scouts, helping to run training and survival courses, and serving as a group chair. An active member of the Optimist Club of Alma for 30 years, he has served as its president and as a liaison between the Club and the Scouts. He has also participated in his church as an elder and a choir member. Mr. Farrelly has demonstrated unfailing commitment to youth and to his community.
