Thomas Chaplin Greenhough, Unionville, Ontario
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
For almost fourteen years, Tom Greenhough visited his wife who was confined to hospital and to a chronic care nursing home. He began visiting other patients who were alone and without visitors, and his generosity of spirit, good humour, comfort and encouragement were appreciated by all. Mr. Greenhough, a former engineer, also put his skills to work repairing wheelchairs and developing items for his wife's safety and ease of movement. In addition, through the nursing home's walk-a-thon, he helped raise thousands of dollars for Alzheimer research. Now a resident of a seniors complex, he continues to offer his assistance whenever needed.
