Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
For more than a decade, Jeannine de La Fontaine has devoted her energies to improving the quality of life of people living with cancer. After working for five years as a hospital volunteer with patients in palliative and terminal care, she helped to set up Amour et Paix, an organization which gives talks helpful to patients and their families, whereby illness is transformed into an opportunity for growth. She also founded the Centre de soutien l'Alternatif, which offers the services of various professionals and others who can help patients regain their health.
